Setting the Stage

            In an earlier post, I discussed the headaches most live music venues face when dealing with performing rights licenses.  There are organizations that actively seek out performance venues and ensure they have the proper permissions to showcase live music.  Many small businesses have been forced to remove some of their services or shut down entirely because of the hefty fines associated with acquiring licenses.  The National Club Industry Association of America (NCIAA) was established to help clubs and venues save money, as well as offer other services.

            By joining NCIAA, members can take advantage of their cost reduction programs.  Some of the costs that can be affected include payroll, workers’ compensation insurance, credit card processing, energy bills, and music licensing.  According to their site, members can save an average of $300 on music licensing based on $1500 a year.
            The NCIAA partners with many other companies to help those new to the nightclub industry tackle obstacles common with starting and maintaining businesses.  When dealing with the proper music licenses, NCIAA refers to BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC to ensure business owners are aware of the requirements.  NCIAA is a community for many entrepreneurs to collaborate and consult one another in their business endeavors.
