Why Concert Tickets Cost So Much

One of the greatest experiences any music-lover can have is to see their favorite band perform live on stage.  Like most concertgoers, we try to catch our music idols whenever they come into town.  However, the rising ticket prices can often prevent even the most hardcore fans from buying their tickets.  While it’s easy to get frustrated at the seemingly unfair prices, there’s a perfectly good reason that people often overlook.
There are many people involved in hosting a concert other than just the performers on stage.  This website is a great example of those involved in the event and where the money spent on tickets go.  The venues need to be selected before anything else and are usually paid for regardless of the success of the concert.  Promoters have a very difficult job of determining the price of tickets and to make sure the prices can help pay for all the other expenses of the concert.  They’re also responsible for finding what areas would result in a favorable turnout and advertising to the intended audience.  Every performer has a boss and managers get a percentage of the ticket sales, too.  They’re in charge of planning everything and getting the right people to do a particular job.  Just as important as the performers themselves are the crew that assemble the stage and make the artists look larger than life.  For big name acts, there is lot to putting together a spectacular rock show, such as the lights and sounds, as well as what happens backstage like feeding and taking care of the band and crew.  The artists have to get to their gigs somehow, so tour bus drivers get paid, too.  For the more extravagant artists, preparing the instruments can sometimes be an arduous task…

Hopefully the crew that put together this setup on a daily basis get paid very well.

As you can tell, there is a multitude of people that make concerts happen.  It’s easy to just focus on the band, but sometimes people should take a moment to realize how much of the work happens backstage.  The hard work and dedication given to concerts is paid off by the customers’ experience in seeing an amazing life-changing show.

“One great rock show can change the world.”
– Jack Black, “School of Rock”
